At the center stands a dry and resilient pine tree, bent like iron under pressure, with its needles scattered into the air by the wind. In the sky above hangs the moon, and beneath the pine, a scholar and his young attendant stand side by side. This composition follows the style of the Ma-Xia School of the Southern Song dynasty in China. However, certain elements show notable differences. The moon is painted in red, with traces of gold pigment outlining its edge. In addition, the plum tree beneath the pine shows remnants of vibrant red blossoms. These features suggest that the painting may have originally conveyed a bright and lively sense of spring, rather than the quiet and subdued atmosphere it presents today.
