Sub-theme1
These two paintings, respectively, depict Evening Bell from a Mist-Shrouded Temple and Autumn Moon over Dongting Lake, among the Eight Views of the Xiao and Xiang Rivers. In the former painting, space recedes diagonally along the riverbank, leading the viewer’s eye to a temple building shrouded in mist at the center of the composition. The quiet atmosphere enhances the auditory theme of the “temple bell,” effectively evoking a sense of sound through visual means. In Autumn Moon over Dongting Lake, a boat is moored along the riverbank, and a path up the hillside leads to two figures resting beneath a pavilion on the right side of a cliff. Although the moon itself is not depicted, the painting effectively conveys the lyrical ambiance of Dongting Lake in autumn.
