This painting depicts Mountain Village in Clearing Mist, one of the Eight Views of the Xiao and Xiang Rivers. A mountain village is nestled between the two cliff faces, where two pine trees stand prominently. The market scene, the subject of the painting, is depicted from a bird’s-eye perspective. The flags along the houses lined up on both sides of the mountain and the bustling figures convey a vivid sense of activity and liveliness. The river flows in a gentle, natural curve that leads the viewer’s eye toward the distant landscape.
