This painting illustrates Evening Bell from a Mist-Shrouded Temple, one of the Eight Views of Xiao and Xiang Rivers. The composition features an elderly monk crossing a bridge and a temple bell pavilion nestled in distant mountains. The mountain peaks are rendered with the axe-cut texture stroke, emphasizing contrasts of black and white. Compared to sixteenth-century depictions of the Eight Views of Xiao and Xiang Rivers, this work reflects the seventeenth-century landscape style, characterized by gently sloping mountains, scattered ink dots, and soft, delicate brushwork.
