The thick, rugged trunk soars upward, while the branches extend vigorously toward the sky. The bold, upright trunk is placed at the center of the composition, with its lower part omitted to enhance a sense of vitality. The trunk is rendered using the bibaek (飛白, "flying white") technique, which employs a brush with minimal ink to create swift, dynamic strokes that leave areas of white space. The surfaces of broken branches are thus left white, evoking a natural texture. The moon is faintly suggested as a soft, rounded form, adding a poetic atmosphere in harmony with the plum tree's vertical composition.
