Sub-theme1
This gyehoedo (commemorative gathering painting) was created to commemorate a reunion held in 1542 by seven men who had passed the samasi (state examination for entry into officialdom) together in 1531 and entered government service. The painting follows the typical landscape style associated with An Gyeon, with expansive scenery dominating the composition and the figures rendered relatively small. At the top of the painting is an inscription by Kim Inhu, a renowned calligrapher and scholar. Plum blossoms and bamboo are painted to either side of the list of participants, adding a distinctive decorative touch.
