Sub-theme1
This gyehoedo (commemorative gathering painting) depicts a meeting of current and former officials of the Ministry of Finance (Hojo), the Joseon government bureau responsible for national finance. A distinctive feature of this work is its detailed depiction of both the officials and their attendants, shown inside and outside the pavilion. Although the participant list records eight names, nine officials appear in the painting, with eight shown bowing respectfully to the central figure seated at the head of the gathering. The strong emphasis on the gathering scene, rather than the surrounding landscape, reflects a stylistic shift that emerged in the mid-sixteenth century, making this work an important example of the evolving gyehoedo tradition.
