This book relates the anecdote of King Sejo's witnessing White-Robed Avalokiteshvara when he visited Sangwonsa Temple. The frontispiece shows a manifestation of Avalokiteshvara up in the sky above a Buddhist temple in a deep mountain gorge. King Sejo released prisoners and distributed rice to the populace to appreciate his miraculous encounter. Such Buddhist miracles sometimes gave rulers opportunities to alleviate political tensions and mitigate people’s hardship.
