The Sutra on the Profundity of Parental Love teaches the unfathomable depth and extent of parental love. This scripture began to be widely circulated from late Goryeo, and was frequently published in Joseon to promote filial piety. This copy was commissioned by Lady Myeongbin of Gim, a concubine of King Taejong, out of her wishes for the health and longevity of the king, queen, and crown prince. The composition of this copy carries commonalities with a Goryeo copy published in 1378, indicating the continuity of the Goryeo convention of Buddhist transcription.
