Lady Sinbin of Gim, a concubine of King Sejong, commissioned a transcription of this scripture to commemorate her deceased son, Prince Damyanggun. The Diamond Sutra was first introduced to Korea during the period of the Three Kingdoms and gained great currency. To generate greater merit for the deceased family member, this sutra was transcribed using rare material such as gold or silver ink.
