Sub-theme1
Avalokiteshvara and Sudhana are rendered in gold ink on brown silk. This painting is attributed to a court painter, Yi Ja-sil, since the text identical to the one on the left of the painting appears in his painting of the Amitabha Triad, currently housed in Saimyoji Temple in Japan. A round face contour, less-pronounced facial features, and tightly sealed lips are distinctive characteristics of the royal Buddhist painting of the sixteenth century. In early Joseon, royal family often commissioned professionally trained court artists to paint Buddhist subjects.
