This Buddha image represents the Buddhist sculpture of Early Joseon, exhibiting the fifteenth-century style of Tibetan Buddhist art introduced to Joseon Korea from Ming China. The balanced facial features, body proportions, and the naturalistic renderings of the drapery testify to the mastery of sculptural techniques. This statue was enshrined initially at Dogapsa Temple in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do Province, and later transferred to the current location of Jogye Temple in Seoul in 1938. Dogapsa Temple underwent a major renovation in the late fifteenth century under royal patronage. This statue was most likely crafted as part of the same royal project.

Exhibition period June 10. - June 22.
