Sub-theme1
This work reflects the evolving style of Joseon lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl, while remaining rooted in the traditions of the Goryeo Dynasty. Elements such as the chrysanthemum and peony scroll motifs, the mojobeop (incising technique) used to render intricate details, and the application of metal along the scroll stems and borders are all characteristic of Goryeo craftsmanship. However, compared to Goryeo examples, the patterns are more loosely arranged, and the scrolls flow with greater fluidity, lending the piece a softer overall impression. The motifs on the side walls connect seamlessly across surfaces—a new stylistic feature that emerged in early Joseon lacquerware.
