Sub-theme1
Beneath a tree where a pair of birds is perched, three puppies are shown at rest. In the foreground, one lies with an insect in its mouth, while the other two recline in the tree’s shade—one sleeping, the other gazing off into the distance. The tree is rendered in Yi Am’s characteristic style, with rugged, textured bark and leaves depicted without visible veins, their curled tips emphasizing their form. In contrast to the puppies, which are painted using ink washes without outlines, the tree is outlined and filled with color washes. The omission of a background further draws attention to the tree, birds, and puppies, creating a focused and intimate composition.
