This pair of paintings depicts ten longevity symbols across two panels. The right panel features the sun, deer, lingzhi mushrooms, and pine trees, while the left panel presents the moon, cranes, bamboo, and a turtle. Flowing streams appear in both panels, though no mountains are depicted. In the right panel, a pair of deer is shown resting under a pine tree, with the female deer using the male’s back as a pillow. In the left panel, a waning moon hangs in the sky, beneath which two cranes rest peacefully. Paintings of the ten longevity symbols such as this one are rich in symbolism, expressing wishes not only for personal longevity but also for the prosperity of the nation.
